Mental Health First Aid

Most mental health challenges don’t appear overnight—they build up over time, affecting how a worker shows up on the jobsite long before a crisis hits.

In construction, a crew member wouldn't be sent into a high-risk environment without proper safety training and personal protective equipment. Yet mental health challenges remain one of the most overlooked hazards on the job, leading to burnout, severe distress, and loss of life.

We’ve trained our teams to manage physical hazards on the jobsite. Now, it's time to build the skills to handle the human ones.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a comprehensive:

  • 2 hours prework

  • 6 hours in person work

This evidence-based course provides broad, practical skill-building for leaders, foremen, and safety personnel.

Just like standard first aid, having certified Mental Health First Aiders on site ensures immediate, skilled support when someone needs it most.

Join 4x5 as we build a network of peers accross construction's offices and jobsites—because mental health is the foundation of safety.

You will learn how to:

1. Recognize early signs of mental health challenges and substance use

2. Apply a step-by-step action plan to offer support and de-escalate crisis situations

3. Overcome stigma and facilitate open, supportive conversations on the jobsite

4. Connect coworkers to appropriate professional, local, and community resources

5. Encourage self-help strategies and peer support to build lasting workplace safety
