About

Our Story

4x5 is a suicide prevention initiative dedicated to Arizona’s construction industry. It was launched in 2022 by Canyon State Electric after company leaders recognized the alarming rates of suicide among construction workers and the urgent need to address mental health challenges within the industry.

Our name reflects the reality we are working to change: construction workers die by suicide at a rate four times higher than the general population and are five times more likely to die by suicide than in a workplace accident. Behind these statistics are Arizona tradespeople, foremen, project managers, apprentices, and laborers—coworkers, friends, parents, spouses, and teammates whose lives matter.

Today, 4x5 is working to make mental health a core part of Arizona’s construction safety culture. Through QPR Gatekeeper and Mental Health First Aid training, we equip construction leaders and workers across the state with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognize signs of distress, start supportive conversations, and connect individuals with appropriate resources. We also work to reduce stigma and raise awareness throughout Arizona’s construction community, creating opportunities for open dialogue and support.

We believe our greatest opportunity—and responsibility—is not only to respond when someone is in crisis, but to help create workplaces where fewer people reach that point. Together with contractors, trade partners, labor organizations, industry associations, and community partners across Arizona, we are helping build job sites that prioritize well-being, strengthen resilience, and support healthier, safer, and more connected workforces for the long term.

Our vision is simple: an Arizona construction industry where every worker goes home safe—not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.

Our mission

Building a mentally healthy Arizona construction industry to prevent suicide and improve lives.

Our strategy

4x5 rises out of construction culture, applying the same rigor used to prevent falls and electrocutions to mental health—challenging stigma and building protective skills into crews, safety teams, and leaders. By strengthening the culture through awareness, early action, and peer support, we improve lives, productivity, and retention while reducing crisis and suicide from within the industry.
